The ATO chose a very busy time to hit our clients with a tax audit. Maybe the ATO use a different calendar from everyone else.
Don’t they realise that the end-of-financial year is a busy time for bookkeepers? On top of that, there’s still the BAS lodgment due date, which for most people is 28 July 2008, unless, like us, you get an extension until next week.
So the very friendly people from the Australian Taxation Office phone up and say they want to do an audit on four of our clients companies! Not that there’s a problem in them doing the audit - it’s just that the extra fifteen hours of work that it takes to get the reports together that they’ve asked for, is fiteen hours out of the time that was scheduled to get the BAS lodgments completed
They left very happy, having seen how efficient, wellorganised, neat and tidy all the documentation was, and commented that the bookkeeping was all in order - that’s what we like to hear!
