MYOB Telephone SupportSometimes clients just need some reassurance that they are on the right track with their data entry. Is it reasonable for them to expect a mobile bookkeeping business to call around and see them just for fifteen minutes or half an hour?

There’s the coffee thing, and the small talk

For the client, it may only be that long, but for a mobile bookkeeper, even if the client is just around the corner, there’s an extra five minutes at each end of the session. More than likely there’s some preparation work, since each client is slightly different. It can be foolish to just turn upto a premises and just “wing it” hoping that you’ll be able to work out the problem “on the fly”

So the 30 minutes has just become 40 minutes, plus some prep time – so the whole process may have consumed about an hour. So is it reasonable for a client to expect to pay for the whole hour, or just the half hour that they see the mobile bookkeeper? By offering telephone support, we can cut down the travelling time straight away. And here’s another thing – don’t y0u find that on the telephone there’s much less “small talk”? So you can get down to business straight away.

When you arrive at a client’s premises they want to show some level of hospitality, so there’s the coffee thing, and the small talk, which could equate to another 10 minutes. Then you need to familiarise yourself with their setup. OK a computer is a computer, but so is a car a car. Each has it’s only little quirks. The keyboard maybe slightly different, or the mouse feels unusual. So there’s another few minutes consumed

On the phone, we can sit in front of our computer, open up a file and talk people through the problem. Hey, they can even send us their file, so we are both looking at the same thing. If it’s a MYOB software issue, or if it’s an accounting issue, we can look at it and help them find solutions.
