Is buying a bookkeeping franchise the best solution? A lady contacted us wanting to buy a bookkeeping business, since she’d just lost her job.
If you have a spare $20-$50k to invest into a business, how long will it take befor you actually start making any money? “That’s what my daughter said!” was her response.
When we started our bookkeeping business on Australia’s Gold Coast, we were in a similar situation. Bookkeeping skills, and suddenly no work.
So what’s the first thing you do? Same as what to do if you’re looking for a dentist in the area, or a mechanic, or an accountant. You would go and ask your friends / family / associates for referals. So why should starting a bookkeeping business be any different?
What rate do you charge when you are starting out? Phone around and ask other bookkeepers. Do some research. Offer “mates rates” if you must, just to get started.
If your clients are happy with your performance, guess what? They’ll refer other work to you. And if that’s not happening, then maybe you need to look at other options.
There are many benefits in buying a bookkeeping franchise. You get support, training, and encouragement. Speak to any of the franchisors, and they will tell you.
As independant bookkeepers, much of our work comes from referalls both from accountants and clients. We are always interested in hearing from bookkeepers on the Gold Coast who may need more clients. Contact us for details
